Absolute Genius.
I could go for an Absolut now
Absolut(ely) deserved, I’d say.
Brilliant strip – so, so funny! Well done Clay!
I am always gleeful when an email from you arrives – thank you very much.
A ray of light in a shitty world.
And hilarity ensued…
Almost 20 years later another ARPA-01 comic!
Awesome!
Everything is twenty years later with this strip
Except the story of how you were born…
wow. what a great strip!
As someone that’s been using LLaMA nd Mixtral for the last 4 year, this hits way to close to home XD
Absolutely perfect! 😀
Lmao, that would be hilarious irl ngl
I’ve been following Sexy Losers since the year dot…an you’ve never lost the ability to make me take a deep breath say WTF and burst out laughing.
Thank you for gifting this cartoon to me today, I really needed the horror/shock/laugh reaction.
Thank you. You genuinely are a huge feel-good giggle factor in my life.
Regards
Neale S
Ps…my favourite characters are Mike and Mrs Shibata. Love ’em!!!
Lool, so ARPA-01 got updated from Commodore 64-based to OpenAI-based tech? Nice.
“Upgraded”
ARPA has already done ELIZA in a previous strip so this is just the same.
Brilliant as always <3
Damn. This is so real.
Wow a upgrade. And i mean that.
Actually properly replying with logic instead of moaning and figure it out what it means.
And actually ending the exchange once it has experienced perceived worth to be to low and clearly stating what it wants before continuing.
The future really is wild man!
Also when you updated the front page Clay, i nearly got lost in the width of it. Looks good, to modern actually.
I also replaced all the comics with bigger versions so they look good on bigger displays 🙂
I dont understand this membership stars thing.
Does that mean that non paying readers will have to wait three years instead of one to get a new comics?
Paying several $ per month for a comics which is updated once a year doesnt sound good to me.
Sorry, I liked the old school vibe of SL. The new site is meh and this whole ‘premium’ thing stinks.
Dont get me wrong, I’m not saying that Clay should give everything (or even anything at all) for free, owes us and so on. But the site has lost its refreshing character.
Good luck and thanks for the years of laughs.
PS I dont like that the site analyzes my html5 canvas data either.
Sexy Losers (and all my other comics) will always remain free to read. Nothing changes about the site or its availability. Member★ is simply a way for people who want to support my work directly. In return, they get early access (usually one week before the site) and some extras.
The membership covers all the comics I create, not just Sexy Losers. Across those comics, I post updates 3–4 times a month. Sexy Losers doesn’t update as often because for the last twelve years I’ve had to fund the site out of pocket, and I’ve had to focus more on comics that actually bring in income. My hope is that if Sexy Losers can become part of my income stream, I’ll be able to put more time into it again.
It’s not a locked system—some readers just sign up for a month, send four bucks my way, and then cancel. That still helps a lot. If I could simply put up a tip jar, I would, but the system doesn’t allow that. Member★ is my workaround.
About the HTML5 canvas: that isn’t being used to spy on anyone. It’s just part of how the comic viewer works to make the images display properly across devices. I don’t collect or sell any personal data.
I understand if the membership model or the site redesign isn’t everyone’s taste. But the goal isn’t to shut people out—it’s to keep the comics sustainable so they can keep going.
The site does not use HTML5 canvas for tracking or fingerprinting. I haven’t added anything like that, and the plugins I use are standard, well-reviewed WordPress plugins from the official repository. There are no ads or third-party trackers on the site.
Canvas is a normal web technology that some plugins use for image display or animations, and sometimes privacy tools flag it even when it’s harmless. If you can point me to exactly what you saw, I’ll be happy to look into it—but it certainly isn’t something I’ve put in intentionally.
I took a look at the plugins I was using and it looks like the “HTML5 canvas” warning came from an old plugin called ScrapeBreaker. I originally installed it years ago to try to stop other sites from stealing images, but it used outdated tricks like checking the browser’s canvas features. That can sometimes trigger privacy tools, even though it wasn’t collecting or sending any personal data. I’ve since removed the plugin, so it shouldn’t show up anymore.
Hi Clay,
thanks a lot for your answers. I navigated the the site for a while and nothing has triggered my privacy browser tools.
Sorry for my grumpy paranoid old man rants. I understand the usefulness of the ‘membership’ thing.
And having the comics in a better resolution is very cool.
THat’s good to hear. That means it was ScrapeBreaker that was causing the problem. Thanks for bringing my attention to it, now hopefully with that removed the site will run a little faster as a result.
I’m glad you noticed the resolution change. I did that over the summer. I felt that just because you were looking at 25 year old comics you shouldn’t have to use a 25 year old monitor to read them!
And I would like to say the redesign of the front page isn’t really about modernizing the site. I know a lot of people come to the site looking for that one strip they vaguely remember from 20 years ago. Instead of slogging through the archive and each individual strip, they can scan through the first panels and find that strip more easily. I also did the individual comic pages with the navigational style that the strip had back in the 00’s where you could jump from strips based on character or story. I lost that navigation when I jumped to WordPress but I’m glad to have it back!
