In the second half of Year 2, I permanently switched from hand lettering the comic to lettering it by computer. This allows me to edit the dialogue very easily at any juncture. Before that, if I wrote some shitty dialogue, I would have to write out the new dialogue, rescan it, and insert it into the piece, trying to figure out how much to shrink it to match everything else in the strip. Because of this process, sometimes I would see some crap dialogue and say, fuck it. This is one of those strips. In the second panel, the dialogue is just some serious rambling without any real point. Holy fucking shit. If I had an editor, I’d fire him for letting me get away with that.
If I had a chance to rewrite that, he’d probably say, “Just in case, may I recommend a pill overdose? You can slash your wrists if you want to, but scarring is kind of a turn off.” There we go. Shorter and to the point.
Anyways, now that I’ve ranted long enough about that, I originally had an idea where I would do a Suicide Prevention Week strip EVERY year. As you can see, that idea got old quick. But I did like the idea of her torching herself to spite Shiunji, that ALMOST made up for my crappy dialogue. … I guess I HAVEN’T ranted on long enough about that, have I?
