Commentary from April 3, 2003
The first appearance of Dr. Lovetalk. This was done during a get together in a izakaya in Shibuya, I think, with the talents of Reirei, Ikuko, and Diizeru, and Kid Tempo was in attendance. Obviously, the idea came from those radio shows where people call in and talk about their problems on the air. I thought it would be funny if Shiunji called in. Soon after, I thought it would be funny if many of the SL characters called in with their problems, and Dr. Lovetalk would give good advice for typical situations (but of course, the situations are never really typical. Because of that, Dr. Lovetalk is kind of the thread that keeps the characters in SL together. She has appeared in most of the threads, sometimes more than once.
It also helped to bring back the Suicide Girl thread. Now that Shiunji was treating the body like a real girlfriend, I had a problem of what to do next. What Shiunji does with the dead body is disturbing, so I didn’t want to show him actually having sex with it. It was difficult to figure out a way to continue it, so having Dr. Lovetalk as a device worked, I think.
The credits: Reirei and Ikuko shared pencilling the first panel, and Reirei inked it. Diizeru pencilled and inked the third panel, and I did the rest. Dr. Lovetalk is much more fashionable in that third panel than she’s ever been.
